It was a walk-off winner for the Twins as they topped the White Sox, 4-3 Thursday night at Target Field.
Chris Herrmann pinch-hit for Pedro Florimon and drove a one-out single to right field for the game-winning hit. Doug Bernier, who pinch ran for Chris Colabello, scored the game-winning run.
Justin Morneau continued his hot month of August with the game-tying RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Morneau went just 1-for-4 in the game, but he already has 6 home runs and 15 RBI in August. He had just 5 RBI in the month of July.
Mike Pelfrey overcame a bad first inning to end up with a quality start. He gave up two runs in the first before settling in for 6 1/3 innings of solid pitching. He allowed three-runs on seven hits and struck out four.
Trailing 3-nothing in the fifth, Trevor Plouffe smacked a solo home run — his 12th of the season — to put the Twins on the board.
An RBI single to center in the sixth by Josh Willingham cut the lead to one, and Morneau’s hit tied the game in the eighth.
Minnesota’s bullpen was back to its solid form after Wednesday night’s disaster against Cleveland. Caleb Thielbar, Josh Roenicke and Jared Burton tossed 2 2/3 innings of shutout ball, allowing just two hits.
The Twins are a respectable 15-12 since the All-Star break.
