Apple Valley native Tyus Jones is caught in a log jam of point guards. Ricky Rubio has played better lately and rookie Kris Dunn holds down the position when Rubio is on the bench.
Jones has been inactive in seven out of 13 games in the month of December. When he has played, he’s averaged just 3 minutes per game. Which is strange considering he played well during the month of November.
The former first-round pick was shooting 42 percent from the floor and was hitting 43 percent of his 3-pointers during that month. In fact check out how well the Timberwolves plays when Jones is on the court, which was posted to Reddit.
Net rating measures a player’s point differential per 100 possessions. This shows that figure for the Wolves’ seven main non-PG players while they’re on the floor with either Jones, Rubio or Dunn.
Dunn is expected to be the point guard of the future so he’s going to get every chance to prove himself. Plus he’s one of the better defenders on the team. However, look how poorly Towns and Wiggins perform when Dunn is on the court.
Then compare it to Jones.
It might be time for Thibodeau to start playing Jones more.
