For years the Metrodome was known as one of the loudest stadiums in the NFL. Whether the noise was real or fake, as some accused, it was quite the home-field advantage for the Vikings.
That changed some when the Vikings moved outdoors to TCF Bank Stadium.
A Sporting News ranking of all 31 NFL stadiums ranked Minnesota 25th – only ahead of Oakland, San Diego, Atlanta, Miami, Washington and St. Louis.
But after two years outdoors, Vikings fans had better be ready for the noise to return if they plan to attend Week 2’s grand opening of U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis when the Vikings host Green Bay.
Here’s our advice, if you don’t like the noise (and maybe even if you do) – bring ear plugs.
According to KFAN.com, the poly-ethene-co-tetrafluoroethene (ETFE) panels on the roof appears that it will “give the Vikings more than just an economic and esthetic advantage.”
The report points to the loudest recorded sound at an NFL stadium was in 2014 at Arrowhead Stadium when Kansas City Chiefs fans by registered 142.2 decibels on the onsite Larson Davis sound meter – roughly the sound of a jet taking off.
Interestingly enough, U.S. Bank Stadium registered north of 105dBs during a soccer game between two European teams.
