If you’re headed to downtown Minneapolis to grab a beer or a bite for Monday’s opening day at Target Field, or you’re just looking to hang out before or after a Twins game this season, here are a few popular destinations within walking distance of the ballpark.
Fulton Taproom
Just north of Target Field, the taproom is connected to the Fulton Brewery, where you can take your pick of locally-made beers brewed just a few feet from where you sit (plus you won’t pay the $9 that it would cost at Target Field). Hungry? Natedogs food truck will be on hand, serving good old-fashioned hot dogs.
Kieran’s
Kieran’s is also a great place to grab a beer with fellow Twins fans. The Irish pub is just across the street from the main entrance to Target Field and is a popular stop on the way. Get there early if you’re dining in (they recommend a corned beef ruben or their world-famous fish & chips) or there’s plenty of standing room, especially in their huge outdoor patio (which may be virtually empty Monday with temperatures in the mid-30s. Brr.)
Bar La Grassa
Located in the North Loop, the Italian pasta bar is about a 15-minute walk to the ballpark. It’s also an ideal choice if you’re looking to upgrade from bar food or going on a date. Bar La Grassa has received numerous “foodie” awards for their small-plate appetizers and bruschettas, along with gourmet-style entrees and 17 pastas.
Huberts
The ultimate sports bar is inside the Target Center building, just a few steps away from Target Field gates. Flat-screen TVs are plastered on every wall if you’re trying to catch more than one game. Don’t have tickets? Huberts is also a good place to watch the Twins play, while still staying close to the action.
O’Donovan’s
Similar to Kieran’s, O’Donovan’s is a convenient place to grab lunch and drinks before Monday’s game. It’s right across the street from Target Center and, some would argue, the food is better than Kieran’s. With plenty of beers on tap, good food and a short walk to the ballpark, you can’t go wrong. Plus, if you’re headed there for opening day, happy hour goes til 6 p.m.
Seven
If you’re looking for options following Monday’s opener, Seven Sushi and Steak Ultralounge opens at 4 p.m. Known for sushi and steak, the atmosphere is a couple steps above a typical sports bar, but if you’re sporting Twins gear after the game, you’ll fit right in. Seven also has a rooftop “skybar” with specials for fans, but you may want to hold off until the weather gets warmer.
