While the Twins are basking in the warm Florida sun for Spring Training, the Twins’ grounds crew in Minneapolis will be working hard this week to remove snow from Target Field.
At 9 a.m. today the grounds crew will take snow blowers and begin removing a snow from the playing surface and haul it to a parking lot behind the stadium where it will be melted by a Snow Dragon, according to FOX9. A heating system beneath the playing surface will allow the grass to green up quickly.
Two layers of turf blanket separate the playing surface from the snow.
The Twins open the 2014 season on the road against the Chicago White Sox on Monday, March 31. They will play three games there before heading to Cleveland for a series (April 4-6). The Home Opener is scheduled for April 7 against the Oakland Athletics.
The grounds crew went through a round of snow removal in February, according to the Twins’ Instagram account.

WCCO’s Mark Rosen did a story on the snow removal last year. The video shows just how much work is involved.
