Vikings linebacker Chad Greenway said Tuesday that the knee he injured late in the season is healthy as he is getting back to some offseason workouts without any trouble.
Greenway, 32, appeared with Vikings play-by-play announcer Paul Allen on KFAN-FM on Tuesday and said he’s “completely healthy.”
He strained his MCL during the Vikings Dec. 21 game at Miami, but the injury didn’t require surgery.
“I’m just getting back to working out, starting back on my lower body,” Greenway said. “It feels good. I’d been taking some time off, but I have been testing it a little bit.”
For years, Greenway has been the Vikings leader in tackles. Viking Update notes Greenway’s injuries to his knee and ribs caused him to miss games for the first time since he was a rookie in 2006, when he tore his ACL.
Greenway still finished second on the team with 93 stops last season.
He’s scheduled to make $7.1 million next season and count $8.8 million against the salary cap. Those numbers could have the Vikings thinking about releasing their 2006 first-round pick.
Greenway restructured his contract before last season, and according to ESPN, it’s widely expected the Vikings will ask him to restructure the final year of his deal.

At the end of the regular season, Greenway indicated that he was open to reworking his deal if it helped him stay with the Vikings for the final year of his contract.
He reiterated those comments on Tuesday.
“I’m not too stubborn to sit here and say I need this or I’m moving on,” Greenway said. “I get it, but also sitting and looking at my position like I want to do it for one more year. I mean, I’ve been here for nine so I might as well finish as a Viking.”
“So I think there’s enough want to on both sides to make it happen and I hope it happens,” Greenway said. “I hope it happens in the next couple of weeks.”
