New charges against the man accused in the beating death of Vikings Running back Adrian Peterson’s son will not likely be filed until after the investigation is complete.
The Associated Press reports that Lincoln County State Attorney Tom Wollman will likely ask a grand jury to consider more serious charges against 27-year-old Joseph Robert Patterson.
The Argus Leader reports that may not happen until early next week.
Patterson is charged with aggravated assault of an infant and aggravated battery. He remains in jail on $750,000 cash bond. Prosecutors are also asking that a suspended sentence be imposed on Patterson from a previous domestic-assault conviction.
Sioux Falls police identified the boy as Tyrese Robert Ruffin. Ruffin died on Friday after he was hospitalized with severe head injuries from the Wednesday incident.
Ruffin’s mother only moved in with Patterson last week.
