Four players won’t be on the field at Reliant Stadium in Houston when the Minnesota Gophers football team faces the Texas Tech Red Raiders in Friday’s Meineke Car Care Bowl.
The Associated Press reports officials at Texas Tech say defensive back Cornelius Douglas, linebacker Chris Payne and defensive tackle Leon Mackey were removed after violating team rules, but the exact violations were not released.
Gophers football coach Jerry Kill also announced Monday that freshman receiver Andre McDonald will not play in the Dec. 28 contest because of a violation of team policy, the Star Tribune reports. McDonald has 10 catches for 121 yards this season.
Earlier this month, Texas Tech coach Tommy Turberville unexpectedly left the team to become the head coach in Cincinnati.
