The golden ticket to University of Minnesota sports in 2018 will be for a doubleheader featuring the Gophers men’s hockey and basketball teams in New York City.
On Jan. 20, 2018, both teams will play at Madison Square Garden in the Big Ten’s “Super Saturday – College Hoops and Hockey” doubleheader. The basketball team will take on Ohio State and the hockey team will face Michigan State.
The inaugural Super Saturday takes place this Saturday and features Penn State and Michigan’s men’s hockey and basketball teams.
In a statement from the U of M, Gophers basketball coach Richard Pitino called it a “fantastic event” while hockey coach Don Lucia said Madison Square Garden “is an iconic venue for a hockey game.”

The game will mark the third trip to MSG under Pitino while Lucia will be coaching for the first time at the “World’s Most Famous Arena.” Gopher hockey hasn’t played at the current MSG, but the 1966-67 Gophers played as MSG III for a tournament.
