It’s finally here.
Friday night in Houston, the Meineke Car Care Bowl, featuring Minnesota (6-6) versus Texas Tech (7-5).
For Minnesota, who are two-touchdown underdogs, a victory would mean a winning season — something the Golden Gophers haven’t seen since 2008. Senior MarQueis Gray tells the Star Tribune: “This is the game that will sum up our season.”
Gray, according to Fox Sports North’s Tyler Mason, is one of six impact players in this game — especially since he might play at wide receiver and quarterback.
The “Viva The Matador” blog on SB Nation breaks down the stats for both teams, with the bottom line that the defenses are basically identical, but the Red Raiders have a much more productive offense.
The Daily Gopher also goes the stats route, pointing out “5 Things You Need to Know.” One we forgot: Minnesota’s last bowl victory. It was in 2004, the Music City Bowl, a 20-16 win over Alabama.
Actually, the Gophers have already defeated Texas Tech, but it had nothing to do with football. Both teams faced off Wednesday in the 2012 Rodeo Bowl, pitting the two teams in a series of cowpoke events. Check it out:
