The Gophers volleyball team is headed to the Sweet 16.
Minnesota beat Marquette 3-0 Saturday in the second round of the NCAA tournament, earning a chance to play Illinois later this week.
The Gophers (a 2-seed in their bracket, and ranked No. 4 in the nation) are 28-4 this season, and with Saturday’s victory remain undefeated at home.
The Golden Eagles kept a couple sets close.
In the first, Marquette went on a 5-0 run late to pull within 22-20 – but a kill from Sarah Wilhite, plus a couple of service errors gave Minnesota the 25-23 win.
And in the third set, there were five lead changes. But a 6-0 run by the Gophers late sealed things, and they took the set 25-21.
