The University of Minnesota men’s basketball team will meet up with Wake Forest in the opening game of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge in early December.
It will be the seventh meeting between the Gophers and Demon Deacons. Their last meeting was in 2006, when Minnesota beat Wake Forest in the opening round of that year’s National Invitation Tournament.
The two teams have faced each other just once in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge – back in 2001, when Wake Forest beat Minnesota 85-79 at home.
Minnesota’s all time record in the challenge is 7-8, including three straight wins with last year’s victory over Florida State.
With four starters returning from last year’s team, which won a school-record 25 games and the NIT Championship in Richard Pitino’s first season, there is a lot of excitement around “The Barn” once again.
@GopherMBB @ESPNU I've got that marked down on my calender! Looking forward to #Gophers Basketball season later on this year!

This year’s challenge between the two conferences has expanded to 14 games. It features every conference school, including Big Ten newcomers Maryland (formerly of the ACC) and Rutgers, along with new ACC member Louisville.
Some of the other top matchups for the challenge include Syracuse at Michigan, Ohio State at Louisville, Michigan State at Notre Dame and Duke at Wisconsin.
The ACC and Big Ten have split the last two challenges, winning six games apiece in 2012 and 2013.
