The Minnesota Golden Gopher football team will be severely shorthanded on Friday night as 20 players and multiple staff members are expected to miss the game against Purdue.
The news was first reported by Yahoo’s Pete Thamel and was later confirmed to Bring Me The News by a U of M spokesperson.
The absence of a large chunk of the Gophers roster is due to a combination of COVID-19 positive tests, contract tracing and injuries. The players who are out have not been named.
In addition to the players, the program also announced that offensive line coach Brian Callahan has tested positive for COVID-19. Callahan has been isolating since his positive test but will miss Friday night’s game along with two assistant offensive line coaches.
The Gophers enter tonight’s game with a 1-3 record.
