In an uptempo offensive showcase at Mariucci Arena, the Gopher hockey team and No. 5 Boston College combined for five first period goals in the inaugural Big Ten-Hockey East Challenge, a contest that ended in a 3-3 tie.
The two teams did go to a shootout, with Boston College winning after going back and forth five times, but the shootout result means nothing in the conference challenge or for the two teams records, as it will officially go down as a tie.
Here’s goal number one in the first period, which took just 30 seconds, and featured a celebration in which two teammates got a little too close.

Four more first period goals would come for the two sides, with two in ten seconds from Edina native Michael Sit of Boston College, and the Eagles would go into the first intermission with a 3-2 lead.
The Gophers struck back in the third after a silent second period, with freshman forward Taylor Cammarata firing one far post on Boston College goalie Thatcher Demko.
Even though the shootout meant nothing in this non-conference action, it gave some finality to the contest and thrilled the packed house. It appeared to mean something to Boston College, as they stormed the ice, celebrating their “win” over the No. 1 Gophers.
The two teams meet again Sunday at 1 p.m. from Mariucci.
