The Minnesota Gopher women’s hockey team extended their winning streak Saturday, 4-3 the Gophers defeated St. Cloud State. It was the 61st consecutive win for the Gophers.
It didn’t come easily though as Minnesota rallied back from a 2-0 deficit at the end of the first period.
Sarah Davis had a big afternoon for Minnesota. She scored twice and had an assist on the game-tying goal.
St. Cloud State’s Abby Ness put the Huskies on the board first and Molli Mott pushed the Husky lead to 2-0 with a goal about six minutes later. Julia Gilbert picked up assists on both of those goals.
Minnesota then bounced back in the second. Davis finished on a power play goal to cut the deficit to one. Davis did it again about three minutes later to even the score at two after two periods.
St. Cloud State wasn’t going away that easily though, the Huskies reclaimed the lead Lauren Hespenheide picked up the goal to give St. Cloud a 3-2 lead.
But in crunch time great teams find a way to make plays with their backs against the wall, that’s exactly what the Gophers did. With just over two minutes to play Dani Cameranesi tied the score for the Gophers. Davis picked up an assist on the goal for her third point of the night.
Less than a minute later, it was Milica McMillen netting the goal to give the Gophers the lead for the first time in the game. Minnesota held on for the final minute and change for the victory.
Two goals in the final 2:09 of the game lifts Gophers women's hockey to 4-3 victory in St. Cloud. Win streak now at 61 games.
