Handwritten notes might seem like a thing of the past in the modern world, but the value of a personal touch hasn’t been lost on the Golden Gopher football team.
“Wow! Never had this happen before. @GopherFootball players sent us thank you notes for inviting them,” the Outback Bowl’s Twitter account says.

The Gophers haven’t said whose idea it was to write the notes, but it likely comes as no surprise to Minnesota fans who have seen head coach P.J. Fleck change the program’s culture to match his “Row the Boat” mantra, of which is a goal to constantly grow in four areas: academically, athletically, socially and spiritually.
This isn’t the first time the Gophers have written thank you notes under Fleck. Last year, all of the seniors on the team wrote thank you messages to the people that helped them during their time at the University of Minnesota.
Minnesota (10-2) will face Auburn (9-3) in the New Year’s Day Outback Bowl in Tampa, Florida. The Gophers’ only two losses came at Iowa and at home to Wisconsin, while Auburn’s three losses are to national powers Florida, LSU and Georgia.
