With the newest USCHO.com men’s national hockey poll released earlier today, few surprises came from voters after the weekend’s results.
Following a sweep of Ohio State, the Gophers received all 50 first-place votes in the rankings to remain at the top of the 59-team heap that is Division I men’s hockey.
The Gophers got a 1-0 win Friday night in the spectacle that was the Hockey City Classic at TCF Bank Stadium, and Sam Warning bagged a hat trick Saturday to secure the series sweep.
As for the other Minnesota team ranked in the top 20, St. Cloud State took a tumble to fifth in the rankings after a tie and loss to NCHC foe Western Michigan.
The Huskies remain atop the NCHC standings despite the poor weekend, and in the national poll are one spot ahead of Ferris State, who drop from No. 2 to No. 6 after getting swept by Minnesota State.
The Mavericks are just two spots out of the national poll after the big wins, having received 29 votes from USCHO.com voters, 18 less than No. 20 Maine.
Minnesota-Duluth, after a loss and shootout win over No. 16 Denver, received a lone vote in favor of their inclusion in the top 20 poll.
