A gunman opened fire at Michigan State University on Monday night, killing three students and leaving five other MSU students in critical condition, according to a Tuesday morning update from campus police.
Michigan State’s men’s basketball team was scheduled to host the Minnesota Gophers at 6 p.m. CST Wednesday, but the university announced late Monday that because of the mass shooting and the ongoing investigation all campus events and athletics were canceled Tuesday and Wednesday.
The suspected gunman, an unidentified 43-year-old man, was found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound late Monday night, according to police.
“We have no idea why he came to campus to do this tonight,” MSU Police Interim Deputy Chief Chris Rozman said at a 12:30 a.m. CST media briefing.
More information is expected to be provided Tuesday morning.
