The “No. 1” Gophers softball team stuck it to Louisiana Tech (and the NCAA selection committee…) with an 11-3 win in five innings on Friday at the NCAA Regionals in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
Note: the “slaughter rule” was invoked due to college softball’s eight-run rule.
Minnesota jumped out to an 8-0 lead after two innings. Maddie Houlihan and MaKenna Partain anchored the offense with three hits apiece and drove in a total of eight runs.

In a very wise move, the Gophers lifted their star starting pitcher Sara Groenewegen after two innings, which means she’ll have enough in the tank to start tomorrow.
The Gophers will take on the winner of 16-seeded Alabama and Albany at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
