Fresh off their first Big Ten Conference championship in 26 years and a 22-game winning streak, the Gophers softball team is now No. 2 in the country in the latest USA Today/NFCA top 25 coaches poll.
The U of M was the first Division 1 team to 50 wins this season, finishing with an overall record of 51-3 and while dominating their opponents. Check out these team statistics from the regular season.
- Outscored their opponents 450-80 in the regular season.
- Team batting average of .351.
- Team ERA of 1.19.
They’ll begin the Big Ten Conference tournament this weekend in Ann Arbor, Michigan as the top seed. If the Gophers win the tournament, they will lock up a top-eight seed in the NCAA Tournament while also hosting a regional.
Last week’s poll had the Gophers as the No. 4 team in the country. Only the Florida Gators are ranked higher but the Gophers did receive five first place votes.
