The No. 1 Gophers showed why they are the best team in college hockey Friday night, embarrassing No. 19 Minnesota-Duluth 6-1 at Mariucci Arena.
Six different Gophers lit the lamp, including Kyle Rau, who hadn’t scored since netting the opening goal of the season for the maroon and gold.

UMD jumped out to a 1-0 lead, Charlie Sampair supplying the goal on a rebound less than five minutes into the first, but the Bulldogs couldn’t find another goal, and they went a dreadful 0-for-7 on the power play.
Adam Wilcox made 36 saves for Minnesota, a career high, thwarting any Bulldog hopes of keeping up with the goal-hungry Gophers.
The series finale was moved earlier this week to Sunday at 4 p.m. at Mariucci, so both teams will rest tomorrow and hand the stage to the Gopher football team before returning to the ice.
