Pre-season injuries are just a fact of life in college football, but one injury in particular could have Gopher football fans holding their breath.
Running back Shannon Brooks missed practice Tuesday because of a foot injury. According to the Star Tribune, Brooks’ foot is still being evaluated.
Gophers coach Tracy Claeys didn’t offer details, but said he’d have an update when he meets with the media on Saturday.
While few sources have offered many if any details, KSTP’s Darren Wolfson doesn’t believe it’s too serious.
Sounds like #Gophers RB Shannon Brooks (foot) will miss a week or two. Good news is JUCO RB Kobe McCrary continues to look good.

Minnesota is depending on Brooks to help carry the ground game on offense. He ran for 709 yards on 118 carries and seven touchdowns last year as a true freshman – averaging nearly six yards per carry.
If the injury proves to be serious it could have big consequences for the Gophers – who Saturday Tradition notes are one of the trendier picks to make a big jump after last year’s six-win season. Kirk Herbstreit already picked Minnesota to win the B1G West.
But for that to happen Minnesota is going to have to stay healthy, something that didn’t happen last year. So just for fun The Daily Gopher suggested a few ways for the Gophers to stay healthy.
The ideas varied – and none of them have proven to be effective – but included bubble wrap and praying to the Gods.
