The new-look Golden Gophers men’s basketball team took care of business in its season opener against Nebraska-Omaha, winning easily 104-76 in front of just over 8,800 fans at Williams Arena on Tuesday night.
The new look includes Amir Coffey playing point guard and true freshmen Gabe Kalscheur and Daniel Oturu in the starting lineup, alongside veteran players Dupree McBrayer and Jordan Murphy.
Coffey: 18 points, two rebounds and four assists
Murphy: 12 points, 10 rebounds and five assists.
Oturu: 14 points and eight rebounds.
Kalscheur: eight points and two rebounds.
McBrayer: 17 points, including 5-of-6 from 3-point land.
Sophomore Isaiah Washington provided a spark off the bench, handing out a game-high 11 assists and just two turnovers in 24 minutes.
Minnesota shot 69.2 percent for the game including 47.6 percent (10-of-21) on 3s.
Next up, the Gophers host Utah at Williams Arena on Monday, Nov. 12.
