This weekend the Gopher men’s hockey team will host the University of North Dakota Fighting Hawks at Mariucci Arena.
This is the 291st meeting between the two schools – but the first in over 2 1/2 years – as both teams are in new conferences.
The last time they met was at the 2014 Frozen Four in Philadelphia when Justin Holl scored with 0.6 seconds left in regulation propelling the Gophers to the National Championship game.
However North Dakota has gotten the last laugh as they are the defending national champions and come into the weekend ranked as the No. 3 team in the country.
The Gophers are ranked as high as No. 13 and are 3-2-1 this season.
Minnesota leads the all-time series with an overall record of 146-130-15 against the Fighting Hawks.
North Dakota fans travel exceptionally well and with the Gopher football team also playing on Saturday afternoon, a traffic advisory has been issued by the University of Minnesota.
Both games will also be televised on Fox Sports North with puck drop on Friday at 7 p.m and Saturday at 8 p.m.
