Despite school being out and the U of M’s athletic season bring over in every sport, the accolades don’t stop coming.
Womens hockey phenom Amanda Kessel can add USA Hockey’s National Player of the Year award to her already stacked trophy case. Kessel helped lead the Gophers to back-to-back national titles, and already had been named the Patty Kazmeier Award winner as the nation’s top women’s college hockey player. Kessel is the first winner of the player of the year award from Minnesota since Natalie Darwitz in 2005.
Oh by the way, Kessel also won gold at the world championships playing for the US.

Not to be outdone, Gopher softball have their first All-American in 15 years. Third Baseman Kaitlyn Richardson earned third team honors for the maroon and gold, she went deep ten times and posted an absurd .544 on base percentage, leading Minnesota to their first NCAA regional since 2003.
