Good news for the Gophers as quarterback Tanner Morgan has cleared concussion protocol and will play in today’s game at Northwestern.
Morgan suffered an apparent concussion during the waning moments of Minnesota’s 23-19 loss at Iowa last Saturday. He was in concussion protocol all week but made the trip to Evanston, Illinois, and is clear for launch.
Morgan, sixth in the nation in passer efficiency rating, has 22 touchdown passes to only four interceptions. He’s been a key part of a dynamic offense that has scored 31+ points in eight of 10 games this season.
If Morgan for some reason is knocked out of the game, Minnesota will turn to either Cole Kramer or Jacob Clark, both of whom are true freshmen.
A win Saturday against the 1-9 Wildcats would give the Gophers 10 wins and set the stage for a possible Big Ten West Division-clinching showdown against Wisconsin next Saturday at TCF Bank Stadium.
Northwestern’s passing defense ranks 31st in the country, allowing just 202.8 yards per game. They rank 49th against the run, allowing 141.7 yards per game.
