The Minnesota Gophers have parted ways with wide receiver Donovahn Jones, a person familiar with the situation told the Star Tribune.
The University of Minnesota says Jones was dismissed from the program for an “unspecified violation of team policy,” according to The Associated Press.
The sophomore was with the team in Orlando, Florida, on Thursday preparing for the Citrus Bowl, but was sent home the next morning, the Pioneer Press reports.
Coach Jerry Kill isn’t available to talk about the situation until Monday, reports note.
Jones played in 11 games, starting nine, this season. He made 11 catches for 253 yards and two touchdowns, according to his athlete bio.
Jones missed the Nov. 15 game against Ohio State due to a disciplinary issue and illness, the Pioneer Press reported. He was sidelined for the first two series because of “unspecified disciplinary reasons” and when he came in sick, the team’s trainers didn’t think he was well enough to play the rest of the game.

The Gophers are preparing to face Missouri in the Citrus Bowl. It is Minnesota’s first New Year’s Day bowl game since 1962.
