After going 1-2 in last week’s USCHO.com men’s hockey poll, Minnesota schools still occupy two of the top three spots in the latest national rankings.
The Gopher men received 48 of 50 first-place votes in the poll after beating Penn State in the opener of their Sunday-Monday series with the Nittany Lions.
Puck drops at 6 p.m. in the series finale as the Gophers attempt to sweep the two teams inaugural series.
As for St. Cloud State, who last month stood No. 1 in the nation for a week, the Huskies split with No. 16 Denver over the weekend, dropping them behind Ferris State for No. 2 in the country.
The Huskies are in NCHC action this weekend against Western Michigan, while the Gophers host the Hockey City Classic Friday, the first of their weekend games against Ohio State.
The two teams will meet at 7 p.m. Jan. 24 in the North Star College Hockey Cup at Xcel Energy Center.
