Seth Green’s future as a quarterback appears to be over, putting an end to a rather wild ride going back to his days as a highly touted recruit at East Ridge High School in Woodbury, Minnesota.
On Tuesday, Gophers head coach P.J. Fleck confirmed that Green has switched to tight end.
“A guy like Seth Green is incredibly valuable on special teams, incredibly valuable in depth towards the tight end or wide receiver position,” Fleck said, via GopherHole. “Another big body-athlete that we can have. Instead of sitting on the bench we can use him now.”

Fleck said he had a “grown-man conversation” with Green and basically told him that he’s not going to be the starting quarterback, so moving him to tight end could result in some playing time.
For Green, it’s the end of a QB journey that saw him reach 4-star recruit levels during his sophomore and junior seasons at East Ridge before he transferred to Allen, Texas, where he split time at quarterback.

Green originally committed to play for the Oregon Ducks before changing his mind for an opportunity to play with the Gophers.
He redshirted in 2016 and played in just one game (didn’t attempt a pass) as a redshirt freshman in 2017.
Green’s move to tight end leaves just three players competing for the starting QB job: Tanner Morgan, Zach Annexstad and Vic Viramontes.
