The Gophers sure aren’t batting an eyelash at early competition.
After defeating Lehigh Friday, who beat Duke two years ago in the NCAA tournament, Minnesota once again put up a solid effort against a perennial NCAA tourney team, defeating Montana 84-58.
Andre Hollins led all scorers with 24 points, while Deandre Mathieu added 15, and Austin Hollins put up 11 on 4-of-8 from the field to round out the list of Gophers in double figures.
Wally Ellenson, who was held out of Friday’s game by Richard Pitino despite being healthy and ready to play, made his season debut, playing sparingly and putting up three points.
Montana, who has made the NCAA tournament out of the Big Sky Conference three of the last four years, was led by Kareem Jamar, who had 18.
The Gophers are in action next against Richmond of the Atlantic 10, a 6 p.m. tap Saturday.
