One of the top graduate transfers in the country announced Thursday that he’ll play his final season of college basketball at Gonzaga.
Geno Crandall, a former prep star in Minnesota at DeLaSalle High School, picked Gonzaga over the Gophers and Xavier.
Gonzaga got a good look at Crandall when he scored 28 points to go along with five rebounds and three steals in North Dakota’s overtime loss to the Zags last December. Crandall hit the game-tying three with just 1.9 seconds left in regulation to force overtime before Gonzaga, ranked 12th in the country at the time, eventually pulled away.
Crandall played on three of DeLaSalle’s state record six consecutive Class 3A championships.
Gonzaga is once again expected to be a national powerhouse in men’s basketball, and with the Final Four coming to U.S. Bank Stadium in 2019, Crandall could wind up playing in a bit of a homecoming.

Another former DeLaSalle standout, Reid Travis, announced that he is playing for Kentucky next season. Travis graduated from Stanford but still had a year of eligibility remaining.
Graduate transfers do not have to sit out a year before playing.
