The Minnesota Golden Gopher men’s basketball team fell to 0-6 on the road on Thursday night, falling to Rutgers by a score of 76-72.
Things got off to a tough start for the Gophers as Rutgers came out of the gate on a 9-0 run to open the game. Minnesota settled down and battled back to tie the game at 21 and take the lead a couple of possessions later.

The Gophers took a 37-35 lead into halftime and the second half was started on the right foot by the play of Marcus Carr. The junior guard put up a team-high 18 points but found himself in foul trouble not soon after.

The Gophers surprisingly held onto the lead while Carr rode the bench, but a six-point lead with 8:12 to go evaporated to give Rutgers a 62-61 lead with just over four minutes to go.
Rutgers held onto their one-point advantage until late in the game when Carr missed a step-back jumper. The rebound and foul put Ron Harper Jr. to the line to sink a pair of free throws and extend the lead to three points.
Carr threw up a wild three on the following possession and Harper Jr. sank one final free throw to put the Gophers away.
Minnesota falls to 11-7 overall and 4-7 in the Big Ten with the loss. They’ll look to get back in the win column when they host Nebraska on Monday.
