With the 25th pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, the Dallas Cowboys select … Mitch Leidner, quarterback, University of Minnesota.
Say what? ESPN’s Todd McShay released a mock draft for the 2017 draft and he has Leidner going to the Cowboys with the 25th overall pick in the first round. You need ESPN Insider to read the full article, but here’s the piece that matters.
“Similar to Blake Bortles and Carson Wentz,” McShay wrote. Maybe that gives more credence to a recent comment from ex-Gophers lineman Tommy Olson when he compared NDSU’s Wentz, the No. 2 overall pick in this year’s draft, to Leidner.
“I literally think if Mitch Leidner had gone to NDSU, this would be Mitch Leidner (being drafted in the top five),” Olson said in April, via WDAY.
- Wentz as a junior: 3,111 yards, 25 TD, 10 INT, 64% completions
- Leidner as a junior: 2,701 yards, 14 TD, 11 INT, 59% completions
Sporting News didn’t even include Leidner in its top 25 quarterback rankings for the 2016 season.
Going by last year & his size, Leidner's actually rated fairly high by some scouts. https://t.co/w6GwBaCTKy
