The Golden Gophers improved to 2-0 on the young season with a 67-56 win over the University of Louisiana-Monroe Sunday night at Williams Arena.
Joey King paced Minnesota with 20 points, but it wasn’t a smooth walk in the park. The Gophers led by 13 points at the half only to trail by one point midway through the second half.
“When it was time to respond, we responded well,” head coach Richard Pitino said, according to the Star Tribune. “We would have never done that last year. And certainly, it’s very, very early, but I liked what I saw.”
According to the Gophers, the win Sunday was Minnesota’s 45th consecutive non-conference home victory; the second longest streak in the nation behind defending national champion Duke.
The Gophers are back in action Thursday against Temple in the Puerto Rico Tipoff. Win or lose, Minnesota will play again against Butler or Missouri State.
