The Minnesota Gophers continued their hot streak on the recruiting trail on Wednesday, receiving a commitment from three-star defensive tackle Albert Regis. The 2021 recruit was also considering Baylor, TCU, Tennessee and Virginia Tech among others according to Ryan Burns of Gopher Illustrated.

Regis is an outstanding physical recruit on the defensive line as he began his career as a tight end at La Porte, Texas. Playing at 265 pounds during his junior season, he started to play at defensive tackle while continuing to start at tight end.
Since the end of last year, Regis has added 30 pounds and now stands at 6-foot-1 and 295 pounds.
To add to his athleticism, Regis is a blur in the open field, clocking an 11.53-second 100-meter dash during his sophomore year. That combination caught the eye of 247Sports’ Gabe Brooks, who noted Regis is raw but could improve with time.
“Regis is one of the most unique prospects in the Lone Star State in this cycle,” Brooks said. “Finding a pass-catching tight end who weighs 290-plus and projects to defensive tackle is difficult, to say the least.”
The addition of Regis helps boost what has been P.J. Fleck’s best recruiting class at Minnesota to date. The Gophers are currently ranked sixth in 247Sports’ national recruiting rankings and will look to add more as they hit the recruiting trail.
