For the second time in as many weeks, the Gophers football program has received a verbal commitment from a highly rated defensive recruit.
Kristian Williams, a 4-star defensive tackle out of Memphis, Tennessee, announced his commitment to the Gophers over the weekend.

According to 247 Sports, Williams is the 24th recruit to commit to the Gophers in the Class of 2019, and he’s one of the best according to the online recruiting service.
Williams is 6-foot-3, 280 pounds and the 14th-best defensive tackle in the country in the Class of 2019, 247 Sports says. He picked Minnesota over offers from LSU, Tennessee, Ole Miss, Missouri, Kentucky, Louisville, Indiana and others.
Williams joins Rashad Cheney Jr. as 4-star defensive tackle recruits to commit to the University of Minnesota in the last 10 days. Cheney committed on Dec. 8, choosing the Gophers are de-committing from Alabama and Georgia.
Minnesota’s 2019 recruiting class now ranks 33rd in the country, according to 247 Sports. As good as it’s becoming, it still ranks behind Wisconsin, Michigan State, Purdue, Nebraska, Penn State, Ohio State and Michigan.
