The Minnesota Gopher men’s basketball team picked up a win in their final non-conference game of the season. It was their sixth straight victory.
The Gophers (11-2) beat Texas A&M Corpus Christi 65-44 Saturday night at Williams Arena.
Despite shooting just 37 percent for the game the Gophers led throughout building an 11 point first half lead. Minnesota. They pushed the lead to 26 at the 10:41 mark of the second half following a free-throw from Maurice Smith.
Minnesota’s defense was the big story. The Gophers forced 18 Islander turnovers, and held them to just 1 of 15 from behind the arc.
Andre Hollins led the Gophers with 18 points, he connected on three of five from behind the three-point line. Austin Hollins was the only other Gopher in double figures he finished with 13 points, he also grabbed eight rebounds.
Austin Hollins helped to spark a key 18-3 run to start the second half with a monster dunk, according to the Star Tribune.
Jeff Beverly was the only Islander in double figures he finished with 10 points.
Minnesota will open the Big Ten Conference season at home against Michigan on Thursday night.
