The Gophers football team will likely be without head coach Jerry Kill for Saturday’s game against Northwestern.
Defensive coordinator Tracy Claeys made the announcement during a news conference Tuesday afternoon.
“I don’t anticipate him being at the game at this time,” Claeys said. “I talked to him last night. We’ll plan and don’t expect to have him at the game with his situation. But he’s doing fine.”
Claeys takes over head coaching duties while Kill is away.
Kill decided it was best to temporarily step down from his role in an attempt to gain better control over his epilepsy. He missed the Michigan game two weeks ago after suffering a seizure the morning of the game.
In a statement released last week, Kill said he looks forward to returning to the sideline on a full-time basis. There is no timetable for his return.
Note: Claeys announced that redshirt freshman Mitch Leidner will start at quarterback for a second straight week. Philip Nelson will be the backup QB.
