Saturday’s come-from-behind win over the Nebraska Cornhuskers vaulted the Minnesota Golden Gophers (8-3, 5-2) football team into the Associated Top 25, coming in at No. 22 in the nation.
It’s the first time the Gophers have been ranked in the AP poll since 2008.
Minnesota is also ranked No. 22 in the Coaches Poll. Jerry Kill’s team has sat at No. 25 in the College Football Playoff rankings the past two weeks; the new CFP rankings will be unveiled at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
The Gophers wrap up the regular season on Saturday against the Badgers in Madison, Wisconsin. The winner will play Ohio State in the Big Ten Championship game. Minnesota could be without its best offensive player, David Cobb, who suffered a hamstring injury against Nebraska.
“I don’t know how bad it is [for Cobb],” Kill said Saturday, according to the Star Tribune. “I know he could not get it loosened back up to play. I know he’ll do his best to go, but we’re not going to risk somebody going out there 90 percent or 85 percent. I don’t think it’s worth it to the kid.”
Cobb tweeted that he’ll be “good to go.”

The Gophers are gaining a lot of respect across the country. Big Ten Network‘s Jerry Palm predicts the Gophers will meet Missouri in the Citrus Bowl and SB Nation has the Gophers playing Arizona in the Holiday Bowl.
