Gophers “Holder of the Year” signs with hometown team

Peter Mortell, the Gophers punter/long snapper, signed a contract with the Green Bay Packers on Saturday, according to tweets.

Humbled for the opportunity to sign with the Packers.

Mortell is a Green Bay native and attended high school at Notre Dame Acadmey in Wisconsin.

After a strong senior season at the U of M, Mortell is the school’s all time leader in career average for punts at 44.0 yards a punt.

He also made national headlines at the end of 2015 for making up an award for himself as “holder of the year.”
