Believe it or not, Las Vegas is giving the Minnesota Gophers a shot to win the NCAA Championship – a long shot, but it’s a shot nonetheless.
Bovada says the Gophers have 100 to 1 odds of winning the tournament. That’s an accomplishment in itself for a team that won just eight games a season ago.
Making the tournament isn’t a concern for the Gophers (22-7, 10-6 Big Ten) – some experts have Minnesota as high as a No. 5 or No. 6 seed.
The Star Tribune notes that Minnesota is the only team with 300-to-1 odds or better that was off the board a month ago.
Despite a seven-game Big Ten winning streak, Minnesota isn’t ranked in either of the Top 25 polls, but Bovada is giving only 24 other teams a better chance of winning the National Championship.
Minnesota’s odds to win the title are the same as Creighton’s, Wichita State’s and Virginia Tech’s.
Bovada gives North Carolina and UCLA the best chance of winning the championship at 6-to-1. They are followed closely by Kanas (7-to-1), Gonzaga (8-to-1) and Villanova (10-to-1).
