The Gophers wouldn’t go away in a close loss to the Ohio State Buckeyes in Columbus, Ohio on Saturday. Losers of two straight entering the game, the Gophers were up against the No. 3-ranked, undefeated Buckeyes, who were 29.5-point favorites.
Final score: Ohio State 30, Gophers 14.
Minnesota might’ve won the game if not for a pair of fourth quarter missed field goals by the usual reliable Emmit Carpenter, one from 32 yards and the second from 49 yards.
Ohio State took a 17-14 lead into the half and kept the Buckeyes in check the entire second half until quarterback Dwayne Haskins hit K.J. Hill for a score to take a 30-14 lead.
Minnesota’s leaders:
- Mohamed Ibrahim: 23 carries for 158 yards and two touchdowns.
- Zack Annexstad: 13-of-22 for 189 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions.
- Tyler Johnson: eight catches for 119 yards.
