Minnesota’s momentum from Saturday’s upset win over seventh-ranked Michigan has been halted abruptly as their next opponent, the Nebraska Cornhuskers, have paused all basketball-related activities due to a COVID-19 outbreak.
Nebraska head coach Fred Hoiberg announced Sunday that he is among 12 members of the team – including 7 players – that have tested positive for the disease caused by the novel coronavirus, with the University of Nebraska saying the program will pause all activities for at least seven days.
“I am experiencing symptoms, but my condition has improved over the last 24 hours,” Hoiberg wrote. “Our program has been hit hard over the last 10 days, and we are all trying to manage it and get through it.”
Both of Nebraska’s games this week – against Minnesota and Iowa – have been postponed. They already had games against Illinois and Maryland postponed because of the outbreak.
The Gophers defeated No. 7 Michigan 75-57 on Saturday, handing the Wolverines their first loss of the season. Minnesota’s next game on the schedule is Saturday, Jan. 23 against Maryland.
