Minnesota Gophers hockey forward Travis Boyd had a big weekend and he is being well recognized for it this week.
Boyd, who scored the game-winning goal on Friday night, then netted a hat trick on Saturday night against Ohio State, was named the Big Ten Conference’s First Star of the Week. But that wasn’t all; the senior was also named the NCAA’s third star of the week.
This week's three stars:

It’s the third time this season the conference has recognized the Hopkins native.
On the season, Boyd has tallied 25 points (13 goals, 12 assists), including 20 (10 goals, 10 assists) over the last 14 games after he missed November because of an injury. Since returning, Boyd has tallied at least one point in 12 of the 14 games he’s played in.
Boyd’s 13 goals lead the Gophers and are a career high. He leads the Big Ten with 10 goals in conference play and six game winners and he’s tied for fourth nationally with seven power-play goals.
