A blowout victory over Nebraska on Saturday night was finally enough to convince the powers that be that the Gophers belong in the national polls.
The 34-7 win over the Cornhuskers vaulted the Gophers into the Associated Press Top-25 football poll, as they landed at No. 20 in Sunday’s newest rankings. Minnesota was ranked 25th in the USA Today Coaches’ Poll last week and the win moved them up to No. 20 in that poll, too.
The last time Minnesota was ranked in the AP Top-25 was Nov. 23, 2014 when they were No. 22 in the country.
Overall, the Gophers have won eight straight games dating back to last season. That’s tied with Baylor for the fourth-longest winning streak in the country, trailing Clemson (21), Ohio State (12) and Appalachian State (11).
Minnesota is 6-0 and opened as a 29.5-point favorite to beat Rutgers this week, and they undoubtedly be big favorites again when they face Maryland at TCF Bank Stadium in two weeks.
