The injury bug has bitten Gophers forward Eric Curry again.
The 6-foot-9 junior suffered a right-knee injury in practice on Monday, a Gophers spokesperson confirmed to Bring Me The News. Curry is out indefinitely.
Details of the injury are unclear, but the Star Tribune’s Marcus Fuller reports that it is a significant setback.
It’s the fourth injury of note Curry has suffered since 2017.
He missed the entire 2017-18 season after tearing the ACL, MCL and meniscus in his left knee during a summer game, then missed the first 12 games of the 2018-19 season after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his right knee.
Curry returned to play 15 games last season but missed the final seven games after tearing a ligament in his foot.
The former 4-star recruit averaged 5.5 points and 5.2 rebounds in a reserve role last season.
If Curry is out for a significant period of time, Minnesota’s big man depth behind Daniel Oturu and Jarvis Omersa will be limited, and likely require more minutes from Michael Hurt and transfer Alihan Demar. It might even mean true freshmen Sam Freeman and Isaiah Ihnen could be forced into action.
The Gophers face Southwest Minnesota State in an exhibition game Oct. 28 at Williams Arena, then begin the regular season Nov. 5 against Cleveland State.
