The Gopher men’s hockey team will make its 21st Frozen Four appearance after a convincing 4-0 victory over in-state rival St. Cloud State in Sunday’s NCAA tournament West Regional championship at Xcel Energy Center, the Star Tribune reports.
Freshmen Justin Kloos scored two goals, while upperclassmen Seth Ambroz and Kyle Rau each scored one for Minnesota. Goalie Adam Wilcox protected the shutout with 24 saves.
The Gophers advance to face North Dakota in the national semifinal on April 10 in Philadelphia. Boston College and Union meet in the other half of the Frozen Four semifinals.
The Gophers’ in-state rival from St. Cloud State struggled to produce scoring chances for the second straight night, and was shut out for only the second time this season. Wilcox responded with the perfect night after giving up three goals on Saturday.
