The Golden Gophers are headed back to the NCAA Frozen Four for the first time since 2005. Minnesota exacted revenge on North Dakota with a convincing, 5-2 victory in the West Region final at Xcel Energy Center on Sunday.
Ben Marshall put the Gophers on top 1-0 with a goal in the first period, a lead Minnesota would extend to 2-0 on Erik Haula’s goal early in the second period.
UND cut the lead to 2-1 with a goal of its a little over a minute later, but they wouldn’t get any closer as Minnesota pulled away with two more second period goals, en route to the Frozen Four clinching win.
The Gophers play the winner of Boston College and Minnesota-Duluth in the National semifinals.
