The Golden Gophers men’s hockey team opened the 2013-14 season with a 6-0 victory over Mercyhurst at Mariucci Arena Friday night.
Gophers captain Kyle Rau scored the first goal of the season on a power play midway through the first period. This insane goal by defenseman Seth Ambroz gave Minnesota a two-goal lead in the second period.
Minnesota pumped the lead to three goals when Rau found Sam Warning with eight minutes remaining in the second, and the Gophers continued to pile it on until the final score had them up by six.
It was the second game of the day at Mariucci. New Hampshire defeated Clarkson, 4-1 earlier Friday. It’s all part of the Ice Breaker Tournament to kick off the season.
Minnesota and New Hampshire meet Saturday at 7:00 p.m. in the championship round of the tournament.
