The inaugural season of Big Ten hockey will go down in history for a number of reasons, but the conference title belongs to the Gophers, and that will stay in Minnesota forever.
The Gophers men’s hockey team topped the Michigan Wolverines in Ann Arbor, Michigan, 3-2 in overtime Friday night. Naturally, team captain Kyle Rau scored the game-winner midway through the overtime period to lift Minnesota to a title-winning celebration.
Brady Skjei gave the Gophers a 1-0 lead early in the first period, but Michigan stormed back to score the next two goals. The Wolverines held a 2-1 advantage until Justin Kloos tied the game with a goal in the second period.
